Missions

Cortaro Vista Supports Many Missions

Local, National, Global

  • Interfaith Community Services

ICS is one of our local missions.  CVCC helped to found this organization that seeks to give aid to those who are less fortunate in Tucson.  A food pantry, volunteers for rides and meal deliveries, travelers aid assistance and many more helpful services are provided by ICS.

  • Operation Christmas Child

This mission provides items for under privileged children around the world. Working through Samaritan's Purse, members fill shoe boxes with toys and needed health items that are then wrapped, collected, and sent to children as Christmas gifts.

  • Chili Cook-off and Pie Auction

Each year, in February or March, CVCC hosts it's Chili Cook-off and Pie Auction.  The men make the chili and bring it to the church.  Those attending taste each chili and then vote for the best chili.  A trophy is given to the winner.  After the chili, we have our Pie Auction.  As many women as possible bake their homemade pies and bring them to the church. We then auction each pie off, with ALL the proceeds going to a local charity. Last year we raised over $2000 for AVIVA - a ministry to abused, neglected and abandoned children right here in Tucson.

  • Mescalero Apache Reformed Church

Our association with this mission has been going on for over 30 years. We support them with an RCA mission share and with close personal ties between the people of Mescalero and CVCC.  There have been pulpit exchanges in the past and even the singing of "I Have Decided To Follow Jesus" in the Apache tongue.

  • Nicole Opgenorth

The sound of braying horses starts Freddy’s day. He hops on Luna’s back to begin his equine therapy session in his hometown of Managua, Nicaragua. Afterwards, he will go to physical therapy, special education classes, and participate in a devotional lesson. Living with an intellectual and/or physical disability can be challenging, but not impossible, thanks to Tesoros de Dios (God’s Treasures), a partner of RCA Global Mission, and the people who support this work.

Nicole Opgenorth amplifies the voices of people like Freddy and fosters relationships with Tesoros de Dios’s beneficiaries and their families. She listens to their stories of how disabilities have changed their lives and how God continues to provide for them. In turn, she shares with supporters how their gifts empower people with disabilities and their families to reach their full potential. Nicole also serves as a cultural and language translator for groups visiting Tesoros de Dios.

  • Other Missions

CVCC engages in prayer partners and special contributions of time and tithes for Albino and Sandy Rodriguez in Cusco, Peru, as they work with La Casa del Maestro in ministering to the children and youth of Cusco; and Beth Fuller who serves with Wycliffe International in Papua, New Guinea.  She is helping to translate the Bible into the languages of the people.  We also take special offerings for Words Of Hope radio ministry, which spreads the Gospel all over the world in native languages and Mission of The Month, which highlights a special mission here at home or around the globe each month.  Special offerings are taken occasionally as we respond to immediate needs in emergency situations.

  • Service Opportunities

There are opportunities to serve offered throughout the year for projects here in Tucson, the United States and around the world.
